«Home» and «Foreign» Space in the Folk Lyrical Songs of the South of Russia
The article is dedicated to analyzing lexical units that represent “home” and “foreign” space in the texts of lyrical songs in the South of Russia. The Southern region is represented in the folklore discourse by the texts of Don, Terek, and Kuban Cossacks.
Through analyzing the lexical representatives of the spacial medium, it was discovered that the “home” space in the texts of family and love songs of the Russian South is divided into two categories: the close and the far. The close “home” includes the house (kuren, i.e. a hut, khoromi, a mansion, hata, a shanty, terem, a high palace) and its separate parts (seni, the inner porch, gornitsa
the chamber, the window), the yard, the gates. The far “home” category is represented by the following lexical nominates: the wide street, the fast river, the green garden, the valley, the steep mountain. The “Foreign” space in the texts of lyrical songs is represented in a system of lexical nominates, the evaluative rank of which depends on the emotional experience of the lyrical hero expressed in the text. The spacial worldview manifest in the Cossack lyrical songs is expressed in the set phrases and geographical nominations that mostly explicate the “home” space in the horizontal plane and evaluate it as positive.
