The New Subjects of the Russian Federation: Specifi cs, Trends, Development Potential
The expansion of Russia's political and geographical boundaries in the southwestern (Black Sea) direction is one of the results of the sharply increased global geopolitical turbulence in the winter and spring of 2022 and the deepening of the conflict
between the Russian Federation and the collective West. Based on a detailed analysis of statistics and data from numerous bibliographic sources, the article presents a multidimensional analysis (demography, settlement system, ethnolinguistic features, economic development, standard of living of the population, military-geographical situation, etc.) of post-Soviet dynamics and modern specifi cs of four new subjects of the Russian Federation (Donetsk People's Republic, Lugansk People's Republic, Zaporozhye Region and Kherson Region. Priority attention is paid to the changing position and role of these territories in the socio-economic system of Ukraine during all three post-Soviet decades (with a pronounced negative trend) (a country destroyed by internal contradictions and active intervention of globalist forces, experiencing accelerated depopulation, deindustrialization and characterized by large-scale territorial socio-economic imbalances and contrasts). The priorities, opportunities and barriers of incorporation of new subjects of the Russian Federation into the Russian economic and residential space (as an integral part of the Great South of Russia,
which includes its key structural and territorial components such as the Russian Black Sea Region and Donbass) are emphasized.
