(Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Southern Federal University)

(Armavir Linguistic Social Institute,)

Among the cities of the South of the Russian SFSR, Armavir was one of the most affected by the Nazi occupation during the Great Patriotic War in terms of the number of victims among the population. However, these issues, with few exceptions, are
practically not reflected in the special studies. The purpose of the article is to identify and characterize the forms of Nazi terror during the occupation of Armavir in 1942–1943, as well as to summarize them. The authors used the principle of historicism, comparative-historical and problem-chronological methods, as well as methods of source study analysis. The article is written on the basis of published and archival documents stored in the State Archives of the Russian Federation, the State Archives of the Krasnodar Krai and the Archive Department of the Administration of the Municipality of the City of Armavir. The documents reveal a large-scale
violence to the population and Soviet prisoners of war done by the invaders and their accomplices during the occupation of Armavir.
The authors identified and characterized various types of crimes against the population of the city and the Soviet prisoners of war: murders, tortures, rapes, robberies. The authors of the article summarized the results of the Nazi occupation for the population and economy of the city, as well as information about the trials of war criminals.
