Denial Category in the Speech of the Kabardino-Circassian Diaspora in Turkey and the Kabardino-Circassian Literary Language

(Institute for Humanities Research – branch of Kabardino-Balkarian Scientifi c Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences)

The article discusses the main ways of expressing denial in the speech of the Circassian (Adyghe) diaspora in Turkey and the Kabardino-Circassian literary language. It is argued that the study of the category of denial is of scientifi c interest not only to linguists, but also to philosophers, as well as to study the history of the language and people. The main means of expressing denial both in the speech of representatives of the diaspora and in the Kabardino-Circassian literary language are grammatical and
lexical methods. The analysis showed that in the Kabardino-Circassian language, the main way of expressing denial is the affixal way, lexical-less often used. It is concluded that the category of denial in both the speech of the Kabardino-Circassian diaspora in Turkey and in the literary language is more often expressed by negative affi xes -kym/-Iym, -me-. The use of the -Iym suffix in diaspora speech indicates that an archaic version has been preserved in the diaspora, and an established -kym suffix is used in the Kabardino-Circassian literary language.
