Characteristic Traits Of Foregrounding In A.P. Chekhov’s Creative Work (Formulating the Problem)
The article emphathises the urgency to explore foregrounding in Chekhov’s fiction texts. Some observations are made over the specifi cs of the writer’s style, that exposes the absence of any noticeable expressiveness and that is still mostly based on stylistic devices. The article shows that convergency based on trite metaphors is a type of foregrounding characteristic of the writer’s style.
Such metaphor is deployed in the text and interacts with other stylistic devices. The examples of foregrounding are given, that present distant repetitions, “illogical” phrases, unclear and needing explanation details, phonetic schemes. The examples display how a part of the text in the function of foregrounding is connected with the other elements of the text and how it elucidates their meaning.
Besides, foregrounding in Chekhov’s works demands all the reader’s attention.
