To the Question of the Infl uence of Nomadism on the Formation of the Concept of Travel in the Arab-Islamic Culture

(Dagestan State University)

The article discusses the problem of the infl uence of nomadic culture on the Arab-Islamic culture and doctrine.
The key idea is the author's idea of the existence in Islam of a cross-cutting idea of spatial dynamics, the journey of believers, which is updated in an unexpected way in various forms of activity and socio-cultural practice: in hajj, trade, a functionally integral spatial architectural solution, in Sufi poetry and practice. On this occasion, three arguments are given in support of this idea: poetic, architectural and economic arguments.
The poetic argument is based on the imagery of roads expressed in Sufi poetry and literary work and the dominance of the road theme, as well as the Qur'anic call to believers to learn about the surrounding world.
An extrapolation of this conceptual idea in the Qur'anic source is a figurative representation of belief as a kind of spiritual path that a Muslim must go through in his God-seeking.
The second argument, architectural, is revealed through the thesis that spatial dynamics and a single semantic and architectural-compositional idea are embedded in the very dogma of Islam, since Islam, calling on believers to travel for religious, commercial or educational purposes, contributed to the construction of a whole complex of buildings and structures, which on huge expanses of the Arab-Islamic world are functionally interconnected into a single architectural ensemble, directed in its architectural dynamics towards the Kaaba.
The third argument, economic, off ers a closer study of the relationship between trade and nomadism in the context of the formation of Arab-Islamic culture. In this argument, the author makes a reference to the Koran, which establishes trade as a charitable act, and that trade as a form of management, in general, also contributes to the spatial dynamics of believers.
