Transformation of the Social Status of Domestic Slaves (Unauts) in Kabarda in the 20–60-s of the XIX Century

The article is devoted significant changes in the situation of slaves that occurred with the establishment of Russian laws and regulations. It is considered with what difficulties, due to the conservatism of their social consciousness, domestic slaves who received freedom faced. The issues of the number of domestic slaves, the problems of "runaways" and "secondary enslavement", which were characteristic features of this period, are also touched upon.
