Verbalization of the Emotive Code in a Literary Text: Pragmatic and Semantic Aspect (based on the Novel “Duel” by A.P. Chekhov)

The article is devoted to the consideration of pragmatics and semantics of the emotive code in a literary text. The purpose of this study is determined by the need to clarify the pragmasemantic characteristics of emotiveness in a literary text, which receives objectifi cation at diff erent text levels. The text of the story by A.P. was chosen as the research material. Chekhov's "Duel" (1891) as containing representative contexts for the implementation of the emotive code of a literary text. The objectives of the study are to perform a linguistic analysis of verbal markers of the emotive code in a literary text, to determine the pragmatic and semantic features of emotiveness and its role in the implementation of the author's intention. The research methods comprised an integral complex, the defi ning methods being the method of linguistic interpretation, component and contextual analysis, as well as textual analysis. It has been determined that for Chekhov the priority is the synthesis of direct, indirect and secondary means of representing the emotive code.
