Decembrist N.I. Turgenev on the Patterns of Development of the Great Reforms

(Southern Federal University)

The article is devoted to the analysis of the concept of transformations of Russia in the era of the Great Reforms,
developed in the scientifi c and journalistic works of one of the ideologists of Decembrism Nikolai Ivanovich Turgenev.
The main works of the author are considered, starting with youthful projects and notes in the era of Alexander I, his numerous proposals on the need to eliminate serfdom in the country as a brake on its development along the European
path. The position is substantiated that such a step was considered by the author as a condition and prerequisite for
subsequent reforms, the need for which he proves, based on the idea of their interrelation and interdependence with the
need to modernize all aspects of public life, the crown of which was to be the reform of the public administration system
based on the introduction of a representative principle in the country, including the convocation of the Zemsky Sobor.
