«Armenian Question» in the UK Parliament and Its Influence on the Foreign Policy of the Government in the Era of Queen Victoria
The article is devoted to the "Armenian question", which began to form in connection with the emigration of Ottoman Armenians to Britain and was repeatedly considered in the parliament during the era of Queen Victoria, becoming a long-term part of the country's foreign policy. The historical and comparative research methods were used to conduct the study, proving that the question was associated with the emigration of Armenians to Manchester, but the problem received an international impetus in connection with the results of the Russian-Turkish wars. Britain advocated a conciliatory policy towards Armenians, knowing about the facts of violence, the lack of justice. The staff of the Ministry of Foreign Aff airs and the changing British government did not solve the problems of the Armenians. The question occupied an important place in British foreign policy during the era of Queen Victoria, as it was associated with the kingdom's trade routes to India, the results of the Russian-Turkish wars, and opposition to the strengthening of Russia.The article points out that representatives of the Anglo-Armenian public organizations, deputes of parliament from Manchester, the press exerted pressure on the government, the course of international investigations and conferences, trying to prevent the genocide.
