Lexical and Semantic Variation in South African Black English

The analysis of South African English of Black South Africans representing the linguistic majority group in South Africa is presented. The lexical and semantic features of Black South African English are shown. It has been proved that the native English vocabulary is the subject to signifi cant changes in Black South African English, which manifests itself in the form of narrowing and changing the meaning.
The lexical composition of Black South African English is also replenished with the help of phraseological units and jargonisms adapted to local realities.
