Ways of Rendering the Individual Character of the Russian Fairy Tale in the British Translation Tradition


The article of rendering theindividual character of Russian fairy tales in English translations has been considered for the first time on the basis of a corpus of parallel texts. A contrastive study of the material resulted in defining the tendencies of the British tradition in the field: literal translation aimed at specialists and a literary retelling for children, differing as well in the ways of rendering the cultural specific information of the original texts.
