History as an Object of Refl ection and Repentance in Opera Poulenc’s “Diаlogues of the Carmelites”

The article is devoted to religious and symbolic aspects of dramatic Poulenc’s opera “Dialogues of the Carmelites.”
In the introductory part presents the trends incarnation of historical themes in the French theater of the twentieth century:
a large national-historical musical drama, mass action in the squares of the city, the polygenre mystery, the article oratorio
and cantata. F. Poulenc’s opera “Dialogues des Carmelites” refers to the fi fth embodiment of the interpretation of the
historical story. It synthesized secular (historical and romantic lyric opera, the tragedy of fate, psychological tragedy)
and worship (liturgy, prayer, sermon) genres. The main section is devoted to the disclosure of these features. Prayers
and sermons form a through line religious meditation as mythology only true path to enlightenment ascent to the truth,
to God. Spiritual line reveals the philosophical confl ict of life and death and is divided into prayer Life (Ave Maria, Te
Deum), Death (Domine, dona requiem), prayer of confession and repentance (Salve Regiena). Three steps – a three-tier,
three milestones hierarchical ascent to the symbolic fi nale – episode penalty – he’s prayer area of the Transfi guration and
the Enlightenment as a Christian tragedy. In conclusion, the infl uence of established religious and philosophical theater P.
Claudel: the controversial nature of the drama, the leading role of the symbolic level, especially isolation, fusion types of
theater, typical concept: to overcome the sin of the world, steeped in revolutionary terror, it is possible only through the
efforts of the Faith, the improvement of each individual’s personality, aspiring to the highest truth.
