S.N. Glinka: Pioneer Researches of Historical Armenian Studies

The article is devoted to the one of the unexplored point of the Russian-Armenian cultural relationships – the works of the Russian writer S.N. Glinka on Armenian studies. The Russian historians studied Glinka’s articles and works on Russian History. He was a well-known figure of the Patriotic War of 1812. Being on his top he mentioned the Armenian History.
The author tries to make an historiographic analysis of the problem “S.N. Glinka – Armenian nation’s historian”, based on different articles, published in the pre-revolutionary, soviet periods and present time.
Glinka represents Armenian History as one of the most famous part of the Ancient History. He wrote his books with great sympathy to a hard lot of Armenian nation. Armenian society measured Glinka’s works as very signifi cant. Glinka was the first author who published Armenian History from its emerging untill the time of “renascence of Armenian Region in the Russian Empire”. He showed the influential role of Russia and Russian-Armenian relationships for the Armenian History.
This article shows the significance of Glinka’s works on Armenian subjects for the emerging of the historical basis of Armenian studies in Russia in the first third of 19th century, in association with the Lazarev Institution of Oriental Languages.
