Special Features of the Compositional Semantic Organization of Academic Texts (on the Material of the English Language)

(Southern Federal University)

Purpose: The article aims to define the compositional and semantic organisation of the texts of basic modern academic genres in the English language, namely, the genres of a lecture, entrance and academic essay, academic article.
Methods: We examine the compositional and semantic structure of the academic texts using the method of definitional analysis, the method of compositional analysis, the method of matrix analysis, the method of structural analysis, the method of comarative analysis.
Results: In the composition of an academic text its structure is reflected which is closely connected with the semantic part of the text, as well as the interconnection of the static and dynamic aspects. Academic texts can have linear, step, parallel, concentric types of composition. The texts of every academic genre are specifically structured. The structure of the academic text is hierarchical in nature and includes macro-, meso- and micro- levels with their characteristic elements. On the one hand, in the composition of an academic text we can observe standardization. On the other hand, these texts have such parameters as spontaneity and dynamics.
The compositional matrix appears as the necessity to standardise the academic text. Matrix knowledge can be understood as multidimensional knowledge.
Discussion: A number of elements of the compositional matrix, being more significant, occupy a strong position in the text. A strong position is determined by the place occupied in the text, the nature of the information transmitted, grammatical structures, the presence or absence of allusions; setting borders and others.
