If the Hypothesis about Welby’s Infl uence Ch. Pierce’s Semiotics Is Valid

(Southern Federal University)

My main objection direction is against the conclusion of the article “V. Welby’s Signifi cs and Semiotics Ch. Peirce’s:
Problems of Sign and Meaning” by V.V. Lyashov and K.D. Skripnik. These conclusions are: 1) V. Welby’s Signifi ca infl uenced Ch. Pierce and Ch. Morris; 2) Significa is a new starting point for the sign systems study. My article shows that the first conclusion has no textual justification. The second conclusion is highly doubtful, since V. Welby’s signifi cation is very poorly developed conceptually.
