European Borrowings in Pashto: Linguistic and Cultural Adaptation
This article deals with the analysis of the autochthonous Pashto language lexical structure units. The research is aimed at the analysis of European languages borrowings being adapted to the reality of Pashto language and culture. Consequently, the relevance of the research is determined by the insufficiently formed base of practical material on the linguistic and cultural specifics of the Pashto language in the period of Globalization. To identify the specifi c properties of the autonomous Pashto language, a classification of thematic groups was developed to identify lexical units borrowed from British English, French and German. The thematic group classifi cation of European borrowings allows revealing the most and least productive areas of the lexemes functioning.
As a result, the linguistic and cultural analysis of the Pashto language borrowings allowed the authors to determine the key features: the prevalence of British English borrowings functioning in all aspects of formal and informal communication types; the productive use of French borrowed units in politics and diplomacy; the frequent use of borrowings from German in scientifi c and technical spheres.
